Colonel Dancy Room
Jon Winfield Dancy of Alabama and La Grange frequented this home in the 1830’s writing about his visits in his published diary. Colonel Dancy is the owner’s earliest Texas ancestor, a senator during the Texas Republic and later statehood, known as “The Father of Texas Railroads”.
Accessed from The Grand Hall, the spacious Colonel Dancy Room features a working corner fireplace. The room also has a Queen-size, antique Renaissance Revival, 19th century bed that sleeps 1—2 guests, and a Queen-size, sofabed positioned near the fireplace for cozy winter stays.
This room may be booked individually or as a suite in combination with Miss Emma’s Room. The room is appointed with wool, crewel-embroidered drapes and mirrored, antique chest of drawers, and a wooden vertical file chest full of generations of vintage sheet music from the owner’s family.
The bathroom facility, shared with Miss Emma’s Room, is designed to allow two rooms of guests to enjoy maximum access and privacy. Bath facility is located off a short hallway that connects the two bedrooms through separate, locking doors. A lavatory and large accessible shower are available in the bath that features a life size mural of a 1920’s Cruise Fashion Model, painted in the ’20s by Aunt Olivia Brown Morrison. The poweder room features a toilet and a lavatory installed in an antique table. Both the bath and powder room are lockable and fully private.
