The Great Hall
The Great Hall is the living room for all guests lodging at the Historic Stonehouse, and is available for events. It measures 14 ft x 30 ft with covered porches at both ends that extend useable space another 20 ft into The Greensward Lawn to the north and shaded Garden to the south.
Natural light filters through double glass doors at the porches on each end of The Great Hall, enhancing indoor enjoyment of the hilltop view of the Colorado River valley. A 40 ft wooden, hilltop cross is also visible from inside, aligned on the centerline of the room. The Great Hall is located in the center of the house, adjacent to the Country Kitchen and breakfast nook. A 12 ft antique, mirrored bar functions as a buffet for food service.
Murals on the walls depicting the story of Rip Van Winkle were painted by Aunt Olivia Brown Morrison in the 1920's in the El Greco style. An ebony upright Yahmaha piano in the corner of the room is available for use in this comfortable, historic environment filled with classic and rare books, Native American and Colonial artifacts.
The room furnishings, except for the piano, can be removed to make way for banquet, conference or lecture seating, for standing cocktail parties, or to suit other needs. Up to 40 guests have been seated in The Great Hall for formal dinners, lectures and guided tour groups. More than 40 can be accommodated for standing room only parties.
Accommodates 40 guests for seated dining (or more for unseated events)
